January 24 1916) is a
furniture designer and maker.
Born in
Chino, California,
USA, to parents who immigrated to the United States from
Lebanon.
His work has been displayed in
museums around the
United States. All his pieces are custom-made, and there's currently a several-year waiting period for customers who have placed orders. One of his rockers typically sells for about $25,000. In 1985 he was named a
MacArthur Fellow. Presidents
Jimmy Carter and
Ronald Reagan have both owned Maloof rockers.
Sam Maloof currently resides in
Alta Loma, California, a neighborhood community in the
City of Rancho Cucamonga. On a former citrus orchard are his home, his furniture shops and the site of the Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation for Arts and Crafts.
